Level 3 Extended Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services (ambulance)

This qualification aims to provide you with the specialist knowledge, skills and understanding relating to the ambulance services in areas such as leadership skills, physical fitness and equality, diversity and inclusion, which can be applied to current or future employment in a variety of roles. This qualification has been developed with employers and subject experts to ensure that it’s relevant to the real world and meets the needs of employers.

This qualification has 1080 guided learning hours (GLH) and the total qualification time is 1430. It could be combined with other qualifications and is also appropriate if you are ready to start an element of level 3 vocational study while completing aspects of level 2.

The qualification is particularly appropriate if you have an interest in having a career in the ambulance services, but also aids progression into an apprenticeship or into higher level studies.

Aims of the course

These are to:

  • Provide and understand career opportunities within ambulance services
  • Identify personal development required to apply for entry into ambulance service
  • Understand the impact of major incidents
  • Analyse the effects that recent acts of terrorism have had on society
  • Understand the impact that war and conflict can have on UK non-military uniformed services
  • Understand aspects of civil and criminal law
  • Understand how the legal systems impact on non-military uniformed services
  • Identify the main threats to the security of people, property and premises
  • Prepare and demonstrate systematic security search
  • Prepare potential candidates for an entry process for a chosen uniformed service
  • Understand components of health and wellbeing that contribute to physical fitness
  • Understand the meaning of equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Undertake risk assessments in water-based outdoor and adventurous activities

Structure

This qualification consists of 4 mandatory units and 14 optional units.

Mandatory units are:

  1. Prepare for a career in a chosen uniformed service
  2. Develop aspects of physical fitness for entry to the uniformed services
  3. Develop leadership skills
  4. Equality, diversity and inclusion

Optional Units:

Learners can choose 14 optional units once they enroll on the course.

How the course is delivered

The course is delivered via a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) which provides access to case studies, learning materials and activities, presentations and web links. Online tutor support and guidance is provided throughout the course, where learners can interact with the tutors, get feedback on their progress and submit their work electronically. This helps you to build relevant skills progressively, as you receive feedback and support from your tutor. As the course is delivered online, this enables you to learn any time, any place through immediate access to VLE. Face to face interactions will be conducted through video sessions

Assessment

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. This could include direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence and written assignments.

Certification

After successful completion students will gain OFQUAL regulated qualification ‘NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services’.  This will be quoted on the final certificate.

Career progression

This qualification provides learners with a good insight into the skills and knowledge they require to develop a career in ambulance services. The qualification is particularly appropriate if you have an interest in progressing to a career in the ambulance services, but also aids progression into an apprenticeship or into higher level studies.

Entry requirements

This qualification is designed for learners aged pre-16 and above and who may be considering a career within or associated with the Public Services industry. It may also be used as an entry requirement to apply for university (80-280 UCAS points depending on grade achieved).
